Jessica Simpson: I Dress to Inspire My Fans

In the latest issue of ELLE, Jessica Simpson says going into design was a natural transition for her and not just because shes a savvy businesswoman.

Every time I think Im gonna be photographed, I wonder if somebody will see what Im wearing, and if itll help em put somethin together, maybe for school? she reveals.

That drive to inspire is what pushes the star to create, both in the workroom and in her own life. I always wonder if what Im wearing will be something that people would compliment, or want to wear, she continues. I dont ever get ready just for myself, ever.

Simpson, whose collections of clothing and accessories have netted more than one billion dollars in sales, recently introduced earrings at Zales and a tween collection with her younger sister, Ashlee. And from the sounds of it, the ideas and inspirations keep on coming.

So the singer-turned-designer hopes to bring her motivational mentality to her new mentor role on Fashion Star, which premieres Tuesday on NBC. (Nicole Richie and designer John Varvatos costar.) Id hate to be a judge I dont want to crush [the contestants'] dreams, she says. Id rather help em reach the best of their ability that week. Spoken like a true mentor!
