Jessica Simpson to star in NBC comedy
Jessica Simpson is creating and starring in a scripted TV show for NBC based on her real life experiences.
Pop star and reality TV show personality Jessica Simpson may be returning to the small screen. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she is teaming up with Electus and Universal Television to co-produce a comedy pilot to air on NBC which is based on her colorful real life adventures.
Based on recent interviews, both parties seem very open and excited about the "semi-autobiographical" TV venture. They agree that Jessica Simpsons everyday life is too hilarious to not be given airtime.
"We are thrilled to team up with the multitalented Jessica Simpson to bring this new sitcom to life on NBC as she is truly a modern-day Lucy with incredible comedic chops," Ben Silverman, founder of Electus, told The Hollywood Reporter. "From running a fashion empire to wrangling her public image as a new mom, we see Jessica's character approach a variety of 'everyday' circumstances that will get audiences laughing out loud."
Simpson added, "I am so excited to work with Ben and NBC again, this time on a scripted comedy. I often find myself thinking that no one could ever make up the things that actually happen in my life, so between the real-life elements and a great team of writers, I think we'll have people laughing."
Previously, Simpson had worked with ABC on a comedy pilot in 2004, entitled Jessica, where she portrayed a pop diva turned TV news anchor, but the series was not picked up by the network.
Simpson is also expecting her second child with her fianc Eric Johnson. The couple confirmed the pregnancy rumors via Twitter on Christmas morning. She posted an adorable photo of her daughter, Maxwell Drew, with the words Big Sis carved into the sand.
