In a recent interview with People, Simpson opened up about the hardships of having a career while being a mum.

"Motherhood is the best thing I've ever experienced - and the most challenging," the star explained. "On some of the days of Fashion Star, I'm awake before [Maxwell] is awake, and I'm not home until she's already back to sleep."

She added: "That's only happened about four times, but it makes the day awful. I definitely need to see my baby."

Simpson went on to admit that her days always get off to a bad start when she can't spend time with Maxwell.

"I get really sad if I don't get to see her. And then when Maxw! ell sees me, she just stares at me and touches my face," she said, adding: "I can tell she missed me. That breaks my heart."

Her series Fashion Star returns for a new season on Friday, March 8 at 8/7c on NBC.
