Jessica Simpson's parents to divorce - amid rumours that her dad is gay

Jessica Simpson's parents are to divorce after 34 years of marriage.
And, whilst divorce is stressful enough in itself, Joe Simpson - dad to Jessica and Ashlee - has an extra problem to deal with, with rumours circulating that the reason for the split is that he's gay.
Jessica's mother, Tina, filed divorce papers in Texas last month, stating, "The marriage has become insupportable because of discord or conflict of personalities." And, according to an article in the National Enquirer , that "discord or conflict" is Joe's sexuality.

The title claims that Joe, a former Baptist minister, came out to his family two months ago. Speaking to the publication, an insider alleged: "Joe got the family together about two months ago and came out of the closet. He told them that hed tried to continue in his marriage to Tina, but he couldnt go on any longer and deny the fact that he had these feelings for men."
It goes on to claim that Tina filed for divorce following the alleged revelation, and that Jessica feels "deceived" by the apparent news.

In response to the claims, a rep for the Simpson family said in a statement to FoxNews.com: "It is an amicable split and there is no third party involved. Any other related allegations are completely false. The family appreciates your respect for their privacy at this time."
The divorce and subsequent allegations come at an already difficult time for Jess's dad and manager. In August he was charged with two counts of DUI after failing a breathalyzer test. If found guilty, he could face up to six months in jail, 36 months probation and a $1,000 fine.

Whilst the DUI charge, divorce petition and gay rumours have no doubt tested Joe, he'll need to keep his cool when it comes to the actual divorce proceedings. In accordance with Texan law, there are some very specific rules the divorcing couple must follow: they can't swear at each other, harass each other by phone or physically attack one another.
