Jessica Simpson is having a tough time

Jessica Simpson's furious over untrue claims her fianc cheated on her - and now pals fear that the stress could push her to 'the edge'.

The new mum, 32, was left devastated after a US mag falsely alleged Eric Johnson had betrayed her with his ex-wife Keri.

A source claimed Eric, 33, was still sleeping with Keri when he began dating Jessica in May 2010, warning: 'Jess needs to think twice before marrying him.'

But Jess and Eric, who had daughter Maxwell in May, say the allegations are completely untrue and are threatening to sue.

'They're furious,' says a friend.

'As if they don't have enough going on, to be hit with this is just unfair.

'Eric's family are all lawyers and want to fight the untrue claims.'

Although Eric's family have been supportive, Jess doesn't have sister Ashlee, 28, to turn to.

'They fell out over her man Vincent Piazza.

'Jess thinks he's a bad influence because of his partying,' adds the pal.

'It's sad as she could do with Ashlee's support.'
