Singer Jessica Simpson's new baby, Maxwell, sported a headband that was handmade in Victoria in her photo debut on the cover of People magazine last week.

The headband creation, called Vintage Bloom, is a tiny, delicate flower made of patched cotton that's natural bone or light tan in colour. It's featured in the June 11 edition of the magazine.

It's a creation of Baby Joy Studios, an online company selling photography props for little ones, founded by Rebecca Thompson, a graduate of Emily Carr University of Art and Design.

"I'm a photographer and I started to purchase props for my own works," said Thompson, 35.

"But I couldn't find anything that I liked, that suited my own style of photography, so I started making my own."

Thompson said she also makes little knit caps for boys, bonnets for little girls that sell for $18 to $21 and swaddling wraps for newborns.

Simpson gave birth to Maxwell on May 1.

When Simpson's assistant emailed Thompson with news the little headband had been purchased and would appear on the cover of People, the Victoria designer said she didn't believe it.

"I thought it was a joke at first and I didn't want to click on the link because I thought it might be spam," Thompson said.

"But sure enough, there was Jessica Simpson with her little baby wearing my headband."
