WASHINGTON ! - When J essica Simpson's new reality show, Fashion Star, premieres on NBC on March 13, we won't see her as she is now - pregnant.

"It will be amazing to see myself with a waistline," Simpson told Lifeline Live in a press call for the show this week. "I'll be a big blob watching myself on the couch."

The show was taped "in early summer," Simpson said. The fashion mogul is a celebrity mentor, along with Nicole Richie and John Varvatos. Elle Macpherson is executive producer and host. The series will give 14 wannabe designers the chance to win a shot at launching their collections in three of America's largest retailers: Macy's, H&M and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Each week, the show will begin with a fashion show designed around a challenge and featuring musical performances (Jessica will not be performing, she says, but we will see her Jessica Simpson Collection of clothes), dancers and models - in front of a studio audience. Buyers then vie for the chance to feature the clothes in stores. If no buyer wants the clothes, those designers are up for elimination.

Simpson explains that designers "who like to play it safe" will not survive. "We like the daring designers and also the designer that will listen."

When asked if she thought about baby clothes during the show, she said, no, because she wasn't pregnant, but "I do walk around everywhere wanting to shrink things baby-size nowadays."

Simpson also said she doesn't think motherhood will change her ability to focus on fashion. "I feel like in the fashion world since we have had so much success that going to approval meetings and being inspired is not hard at all. It's a really relaxing career for me. I travel to New York and Paris for Fashion Week and stuff but other than that, it's just a career. All that I need to do is just stay inspired, and I don't see that leaving anytime soon."

Fashi! on has t aught her a few things, she said. "At the beginning I thought everything I wanted to create was right and that's what everyone should be wearing. But look, I don't wear flats and I'm very, very pregnant and (flats are) my biggest selling shoe in the Jessica Simpson collection. I had to give in and say 90% of America wears flats. ... It's not about what I would wear."

She added, "I never expected to do what I've done in the fashion world. We started off with accessories. I thought I would just do shoes and handbags. So the sky's the limit. Even with music, acting and being a mom, anything I want to do, I know I can do. Life is always about expanding and that's how we grow. I'm really happy to be where I'm at and proud to say I get to do everything I love to do."

Although she had already announced she wanted to do a maternity line, she sounded slightly less enthusiastic when asked about it during the call.

"I've started to try to come up with designs. I haven't loved anything. I was going to launch a maternity line, but it seems like everything being made is already out there."

She hasn't bought any specific maternity clothes throughout her pregnancy, she says, opting instead for clothes "in bigger sizes."

She says, "I really want to make a maternity line that is comfortable but really stylish. It's a little bit harder because people don't what to spend a lot on maternity clothes because you're pregnant for almost 10 months. It's a harder business but I want to do it eventually."
